Finding the RIGHT Therapist for YOU

Therapists are more accessible than ever so why is it so difficult to find one you vibe with?

It could be that your area is oversaturated with therapists OR the opposite could be true – there’s just not enough. Online therapy is gaining a lot of traction but folks are still hesitant to seek out online only therapists.

Something else I have started to see is that individuals have waited until the last possible second and boom, they are paralyzed with whatever we’ve been feeling X 100 and decide it’s a great idea to mindlessly type into google, “therapists near me.” Then the real fun begins. It’s like tinder but with therapists. Swipe left, swipe left, swipe right, do some internet stalking and talk yourself out of reaching out. Repeat cycle.

 

The problem is that most of us are doing so many things in our lives on auto-pilot without clear intentions. Do you even know what you’re looking for in a therapist or are you just waiting for someone’s profile to speak to you & you’ll know? If this is you go grab a piece of paper & write down your intention for seeking out a therapist. Then, jot down 3 non-negotiables that you are not willing to compromise on along with 3 preferences that you are flexible on.

 

Intention: Find I therapist I feel I can connect with.

3 Non-Negotiables: Male Therapist, specializes in working with individuals with anxiety, willing to see me in person.

3 Preferences: $200 or less session fee, trained/knowledge in internal family systems (IFS), around my age.

 

Here’s the truth: You may need to try a few therapists before you find the right one. Just like any relationship, certain therapists can be helpful in specific seasons of life. If you can get clear on what you’re looking for right now it can be easier to narrow down your search!
